Model 600C - Applications

Overview Operation Applications Specifications

STAMPINGS

A stamping for a shaft seal is shown below.  The seal is held in a fixture on a turntable mounted on the rotary table.  The inspection task is to measure the variation in diameter of the inner seal surface: does it flare out or flare in?.

The stamping was scanned in four different rotations, each 90 degrees from each other.  The four views were merged together to get the composite datacloud shown below.

In order to measure the variation in the inner seal diameter, the surface was modeled as three rings, shown color-coded below.  Each ring had the same axis, but only one third of the inner seal datacloud points.   Since thousands of datapoints were least squares fit to each ring, the diameter variation could be measured very accurately.
